Fake CSM US Army Calum McAndreis/Anderson

The Self-Styled CSM Malcolm Grainger Gillard or Andrews, 3rd Infantry Brigade

Primarily ‘Fake Scots Titles’ endeavours to expose those using Scots Titles they are not at liberty to use. However, during our investigations into the Fake Chief, Calum McAndreis/Anderson, we became suspicious of his claims of being a Command Sergeant Major with a Distinguished Service Cross & Legion of Merit –  “Calum Anderson DSC, LOM (SGTM Ret)” see link http://www.irishgaelictranslator.com/translation/topic83885.html and also http://www.scottishindependence.com/page32.htm

Further suspicions arose on receipt of the above photograph of this individual, now calling himself Mr McAndreis, wearing a US Army uniform supporting the insignia and ribbons listed below:

US ARMY UNIFORM INSIGNIA & AWARDS

(as worn by soit-disant now called Calum McAndreis aka Anderson)

Left Arm: (Insignia not all visible)

US Army 3rd Division Patch
Command Sergeant Major Insignia (stripes)
18 Years service stripes

Left Breast: (Badges & Ribbons)

Combat Infantry Badge (above medal ribbons)
Master Parachute Wings
Army Sharpshooter’s Badge

(Medal Ribbons)

Silver Star
Soldiers Medal
Bronze Star
Purple Heart
Meritorious Service Medal
Army Commendation Medal
Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal
Vietnam Service Medal
National Defence Service Medal (out of sequence)
Kuwait Liberation Medal

Right Breast: (Unit Awards)

Army Superior Unit Award
Army Presidential Unit Citation
Gold Lifesaving Medal

We would now welcome comments from those who know more about such matters than we do here in Scotland. We find it difficult to understand how someone born in 1959 could possibly be entitled to the insignia and medals being worn in this photograph some of with relate to the Vietnam War. Mr McAndreis’ arms also seem to have shrunk since retiring from the US military.

We have been informed that he also proudly displays in his home signed and personalised certificates relating to the above awards. A search of the internet leads us to believe that such certificates are a great deal easier to obtain than one might have thought possible in such serious and emotive circumstances – http://www.military-certificates.com/ARMY_Awards.htm

This information has now been made available to the 3rd Infantry Division, US Army, for their investigation and comment.  Anyone else wishing to contribute to this enquiry is welcome to submit their insight either in confidence by contacting Fake Scots Titles or publicly on this page.

Update:  The only CSM Andrews we can find who served with the 3rd Infantry Brigade is a highly decorated African American veteran, Jesse Andrews.

  1. Ivan Lantzky says:

I am a retired US Army veteran.

    The photo shows:
    1) Three shoulder tabs on his left sleeve – ONLY TWO at a time are authorized. From top to bottom they appear to be the “Special Forces Tab”, “Ranger Tab”, and either an “Airborne or Sapper Tab”. Since the 3rd Infantry Division is not an airborne unit the Airborne Tab as part of the unit patch is unauthorized.
    2) On his right breast he wears three “Unit Citations” – they are out of proper sequence.
    3) Born in 1959, the Vietnam War ended before he could have possibly served in uniform thus no “personal Vietnam era decorations would ever have been awarded.
    4) His lower left sleeve indicates “18 years service”. I have never met an individual with only eighteen years service who was a “Command Sergeant Major”. The norm is at least over twenty plus years service.
    5) The “Combat Infantry Badge (C.I.B.)” indicates he served in a combat theater of operations. It is unclear if he wears the “Overseas Bars” on his right lower sleeve. If he served in combat he would (and should be wearing those as well).

In the U.S.A. there is a federal law called the “Stolen Valor Act”. If prosecuted he could be heavily fined and serve a federal prison term.

More importantly – he does not want to be in the midst of real Veterans while so attired.

wearing medals and honours you do not deserve actually makes me physically sick – I really wish there was a way he could be prosecuted for this.

My father landed on the Normandy beaches on D-Day and fought through France in WWII – he earned the medals he wore with pride at every veterans parade and I was proud to wear them on his behalf (on the opposite side to denote a relative as is right and proper) at the same remembrance service after his death.

I agree, let the proper veterans have half an hour in a locked room with him!

  3. CelticSire says:

Enlisted soldiers do not wear rank on their headgear. He should be wearing a Distinctive Unit Insignia of the 3rd Infantry Division instead. His ribbons are not worn correctly as he has a single ribbon on the bottom row. It should be a row of 3, then 3 in each higher row. Also, he is wearing the Liberation of Kuwait Medal but is not wearing the Saudi liberation of Kuwait medal which was presented prior to the Kuwaiti one he wears. He should be wearing both. The US pullout from Viet Nam was in 1975 – if born in 1959, that means he would have had to have reported to Viet Nam at the age of 15 at the oldest. His Unit Citations (right breats above pocket) are out of order. It is now authorized to wear three tabs (the cloth rockers above the 3rd ID patch), BUT the 3rd ID is not Airborne and therefore would not wear an Airborne Tab. The blue Airborne Tab is either 82nd Airborne Division or 173rd Airborne. He is also wearing a Sliver Star lapel pin as a tie tack – unathorized in uniform, especially if it can be seen. The lapel pin is to be worn in civilian clothes in lieu of the medal – NOT as a tie tack in uniform. His name plate also has “CSM Retired” under his name – again, completely unauthorized. Also, he is not wearing the NCOES (Non Commissioned Officer Education System) ribbbon that every NCO wears with a numeral on it designating the level of NCO education attained. As a CSM, he should be wearing the wribbon with a roman numeral 4 attached. He also does not wear an Overseas Service Ribbon, nor an Army Service Ribbon which EVERY Army soldier is awarded upon completion of training. This man is a complete and utter fake, and a bad one at that. I’m sure there is more, but this should suffice for now.

  5. A good way to tell the difference between real and pretending veterans:
The real heroes will walk right by you and you would never know them in their humility…
The imposters just won’t shut up!
